CAST MA Creating Social Media now accepting applications

Monday 2nd May, 2011

The newly-launched Centre for Creative and Social Technologies (CAST) is now accepting applications for the 2011/12 academic year on our new MA Creating Social Media.

The MA Creating Social Media is a collaborative programme across the Departments of Computing and The Centre for Cultural Studies at Goldsmiths, and is based in the newly launched Centre for Creative and Social Technology (CAST). This unique course combines theory and practice to provide students with the practical and critical skills to shape the future of social media.

We are currently accepting our first students for 2011/12. Every student on our MA will prepare for future job opportunities on guaranteed projects and internship placements with one of our Innovation partners. Our students will be able to enter organisations and hit the ground running to solve problems and innovate using that unique hybrid skill set of analytical skills and creative technology capacities. Applicants should be determined to explore critical and entrepreneurial approaches and be enthusiastic about in-depth and hands-on experimentation with social media. Applicants are also eligible for CAST Innovation Scholarships in the 2011/12 academic year.

As part of this exciting new research centre, students will have access to state of the art Facilities and emergent creative and social technologies. The MA Creating Social Media educates recent graduates or mid-career professionals seeking to acquire training to plan, develop, hack and implement social media campaigns.

Our students will become proficient in:

  • Computing skills (coding, hardware/software, data, mashups, apps, hacks and tools)
  • Theories of social processes and methods to analyse contemporary discourses of social change
  • Creating social media interventions that address social processes in new ways

Employers are increasingly seeking multi-skilled professionals capable of developing lateral roles and taking on a diversity of responsibilities. Our MA Creating Social Media programme equips you with the skill and vision to shape social media’s platforms, apps and APIs of the future.
